As the Superintendent of the district this is one of the moments that makes me proud and grateful for the people we have that truly care about the well being of the students. Today it was proven that our people make personal sacrifices to mitigate risks for the students. With continued concern about school safety from hearing about the daily active threats in schools across the country and some recent local concerns that required our vigilance, the 7-12 grade teachers and staff took the initiative from the suggestion of a colleague to park in the Catholic Community Center lot across the street. This will allow for ample parking for students to park on the south side of Rambo Street in the administrative parking lot and other areas in close proximity to the building. With that, it will provide the safest route for students to enter and exit the building at all times. It is unfortunate that we have to have this level of concern about students crossing streets (due to distracted pedestrians and drivers), having parking areas that do not co-mingle with the public and can easily be monitored by staff and cameras. But the fact is, it is not if a threat happens but when it happens.
The pictures show the staff vehicles parked at the Community Center and also the available parking as of 8:15 this morning for students east of the JH/HS building in the lot of the old intermediate building.
